About Our Grant Process

Beyond Our Gates is a public, 501(c)(3) grant-making community foundation.  Through our annual grant program, we provide funding to charitable organizations whose service offerings align with our mission and who serve the five Charleston Sea Islands of Johns, James, Wadmalaw, Edisto and Yonges (Hollywood/Meggett).

What Is the Grant Application Process?

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Align with Beyond Our Gates’ mission
  • Have operations serving the five Charleston Sea Islands
  • Hold 501(c)(3) status (verified by an IRS EIN Confirmation Letter)
  • Demonstrate strong financial controls, including the ability to provide three years of internal financial statements and IRS Form 990s

What Is the Timeline for the Grant Process?

  • Late June: Grant invitations and applications sent
  • August 31: Application deadline
  • October 31: Grant Committee decisions communicated
  • November: Funds distributed
